How Solar Panels are Becoming Architectural Dreams
Who is Lumos Solar?
Lumos Solar creates architectural solar products that are designed with functionality, efficiency, and aesthetics in mind, and is committed to facilitating the continued progressive adoption of solar energy in an effort to protect, improve, and beautify the world. Unlike other boxy solar panels, Lumos’ products feature streamlined, modern designs. These innovative panels are able to be used in a myriad of fashions, including canopies, carports, awnings, and even freestanding structures, such as bus stops and covered picnic tables.
Lumos Solar’s History
According to Scott Franklin, Founder and President of Lumos Solar, Lumos started as a dream and a desire to make a product that can improve the world. In 2005, he sat down to imagine a way to help move the world to move in a more positive direction. Scott knew he wanted to create a product that would allow for success all around. Something that the more products sold, the better for the world—something in solar. After all, the more solar panels sold and used, the less energy drain on the grid.
After much self-reflection and thinking about his family, politics, and the state of the planet, Scott created the first concepts that would become Lumos’ architecturally-driven solar system. And in 2006, Lumos Solar was officially founded.
The benefits of solar energy
There are many benefits to solar energy. First, it saves on energy bills and reduces the drain and reliance upon the fossil fuel sources that currently power the electric grid. Second, in many cases, there’s up to 30% tax credit for its total cost. Third, there’s an immediate saving from day one, as solar panels generate energy for a building, company, or even household. And fourth, since it’s clean, harvested energy, it’s safe and eco-friendly.
What makes Lumos Solar different?
Lumos Solar holds a unique place in the industry—really set apart in terms of architectural requirements and goals. Meaning, Lumos products are effective, practical, sustainable, and above all, stunning.
Naturally, the solar industry’s primary focus falls on collecting solar power. After all, solar energy can be used in conjunction with (or in replacement of) traditionally manufactured electricity, which helps to promote sustainability, lower energy costs, and are environmentally friendly. But Lumos Solar goes further, understanding the importance of aesthetics and the beautiful calm of resting in the shade. The Lumos Module Systems expand typical solar module functionality beyond solar power collection and eliminates the unsightly panels typically associated with solar technology. Instead, they incorporate a skillfully designed system into architecture in an artistic manner.
Lumos’ modules can be mounted in unique ways, allowing them to fit into almost any building or project design. Of course, they collect solar energy, but they have the added benefits of having integrated wire management, are weatherproof, and are equally effective in terms of energy products as other more cumbersome systems.
Additionally, sustainability-minded companies, organizations, buildings, contractors, etc. are excited about going the solar route, as it displays their interest and dedication to green energy. However, with other systems, the solar panels are bulky and likely installed on the rooftop where no one can see them. But with Lumos systems, solar power becomes visible, beautiful, and can make an architectural statement.
Lumos Solar makes incorporating solar panels easy and fun
When new technology is involved, there can be a fear that it will be difficult to implement, but Lumos makes incorporating their systems into builds, designs, and projects simple. Lumos offers potential clients the ability to send in their sketches, and at which point, Lumos is able to consult and collaborate to help build the perfect solution.
Lumos offers 5 products
1. LSX Module Systems:
The award-winning LSX Module System is a through-bolt mounting that allows for incorporation into an unlimited number of designs.
2. GSX Module Systems:
GSX Module System is a BiFi Glass-Glass Solar Module with GSX Mounting System and uses bifacial solar cells that produce energy on both the front and back of the panels.
SolarScapes are prefabricated modular solar structures that offer maximum durability and easy installation. Additionally, SolarScapes meet the highest snow, wind, and hair ratings, while offering the same beautiful modern designs as its counterparts.
SolarZones are independent charging tables that with a solar panel covering. These are perfect outdoor educational spaces, stadiums, cafes—really anywhere that shade, a table, and electrical devices are wanted.
SolarStops is a freestanding transit shelter that powers itself off the grid, and can be installed anywhere, and doesn’t require foundations or underground electrical work.
Lumos Solar started designing custom architectural projects in 2006 and has since won partnerships with top architects, design professionals, builders, city planners, and the like. Lumos’ LSX Solar Module Systems have won product innovations awards for design, functionality, and durability since 2012.
To date, Lumos has totaled nearly a dozen independent awards. In 2021, LSX Solar Module System has already been named the “Green Good Design” winner, and the GSX Solar Module System was integrated into the new Microsoft Silicone Valley campus that won the “COTE Top Ten Award.”
In an ever-sustainable conscious world, the concept of solar technology is becoming increasingly desirable. And when green energy can be harvested in modern and aesthetically pleasing ways, its appeal multiplies. Fortunately, Lumos systems are able to address both in its products, and best yet, they are able to make the process seamless, easy, and fun.
